The different ways the organization provides this exposure is by holding meetings with speakers, taking tours of local businesses, and attending NBS conventions in different areas.
Meetings/Speakers
National Broadcasting Society holds meetings the first Monday of every month throughout the year at 6 p.m. in Old Main 320. Each meeting features a speaker from a company within the electronic media field who share their experiences, inform the members about their company and even provide opportunities.
"It's a great way to network and meet successful professionals in the industry," said Sarah Whitley, the president of NBS.
The first guest we had to start off the 2011-2012 school year was Chuck Kaufman the Internship, Scholarship and Career Development Coordinator for Texas State's School of Journalism and Mass Communication.
Other speakers from the year included David Ostmo the Director of Operations at KABB FOX San Antonio and Jeff Hastings the Vice President at Elephant Productions.
Speakers from the past have included:
- Patti Smith the President and General Manager at KVUE in Austin
- Bobby Bones
- Michael Humphries from KENS 5 in San Antonio, TX
- Noelle Newton a reporter at KVUE
- Julie Musgrave a reporter at KEYE
Tours
National Broadcasting Society members also take special field trips during the year. The trips consist of tours to different companies in local areas that relate to electronic media.
This year, in March, NBS members went to KABB FOX San Antonio where David Ostmo conducted a tour in which he gave a brief history of how they got started and different successes they have had.

Local and National Conventions
Every year National Broadcasting Society holds a local and national convention.
Many employers and employees spoke to the NBS members in November of 2011 at a convention in Austin. The convention began Friday with tours around news stations in Austin, and awards for people who submitted work beforehand for the convention. Saturday consisted of professionals in all fields of broadcasting speaking to the NBS members.
The national convention this year was held in March in New York.
